How to read a Hyatt award quote

Hyatt is the only major program that still publishes what a night costs. Eight categories, five pricing tiers each, 40 possible standard-room prices. That means you can price a stay before you search, which is why the calculator is built around the full chart rather than a single quote.

Where each number comes from

FieldWhere the number comes from
NightsYour actual stay length. Hyatt has no long-stay discount, so this only scales the totals.
Cash rateThe nightly rate you'd really book on hyatt.com, before tax. Use the member rate if you'd get it.
TaxThe tax percentage from the cash quote. US hotel tax typically lands between 10% and 17%.
Resort feePer night, if the property charges one. Leave at 0 otherwise. Hyatt waives this on award stays for every member, so entering it correctly tilts the result toward points.

Points quotedTotal for the whole stay from Hyatt's points calendar — or just click a cell in the chart on the calculator page to load that tier.
Your point valueYour personal floor in cents. 1.7¢ is the default and a reasonable post-devaluation figure; raise it if you consistently do better.
Brand base earn5 base points per eligible dollar at Hyatt hotels and resorts, 2.5 at Hyatt Studios. Taxes, service charges and gratuities don't earn.
Elite tierYour status. Drives the bonus on the 5 base points per dollar you'd earn paying cash.
Card earn4x if you'd put the stay on a World of Hyatt card. Card points are calculated on the whole folio, not just the room.
Points + CashHyatt quotes this at booking: half the points plus a discounted cash rate. Enter both halves exactly as shown.

Reading the result

  1. The big number is the cents per point this redemption actually delivers. Compare it to the floor shown beside it. Orange means the points win, dark means pay cash, grey means it's inside the noise.
  2. The ledger breaks out both paths line by line. The row that catches people out is Points earned back — that's the value you forfeit by not paying cash, and it's already subtracted from the cash side.
  3. The chart is the real tool. Find your hotel's category row and read across the five tiers. Every cell is priced against the cash rate you entered, so you can see instantly which tiers are worth paying and which aren't — before you go looking for dates.
  4. Click any cell to load it as your scenario. Useful for asking "what if I shift to a cheaper week."
  5. The Points + Cash line asks a sharper question than most calculators: going from the P+C offer up to a full-points booking costs extra points and saves the co-pay. If those extra points are buying cash back at better than your valuation, book full points.

Watch for

  • The Lowest tier is not promised. Hyatt made no commitment to offering any minimum number of nights at Lowest or Low pricing. Plan around Moderate and treat cheaper as a bonus.
  • Certificates ignore the tier. A Cat 1–4 or 1–7 free night covers a standard room at any price level, so spend it on the dotted cells — the top tier of its range — where it offsets the most points.
  • Separate charts exist for all-inclusive resorts, Miraval, Mr & Mrs Smith, club rooms and suites. This calculator is standard rooms at categories 1–8 only.
  • The chart moves each spring. Hyatt now announces category changes each April, effective in May. Check the official update list before assuming a hotel's category.
